Good morning!
Welcome to Digestable, your mouthful of things happening in the world.
Today’s ferments:
If you’re in Vermont, you know that Town Meeting Day is almost upon us. Set on the first Tuesday in March, it’s a time for town residents to gather and decide about important stuff. TMD has been happening for around 400 years in New England in some form or another. Unlike other things that have been happening in New England for that long, this one’s a keeper, and looks a lot like citizens’ assemblies, which might be the future of democracy.
I didn’t get myself together for a deep dive into the TMD rabbit hole today, but I did spend some time reviewing all the ballot items we’ll be able to vote on in Burlington. Since Burlington is a city (lol) not a town, we won’t have a big gathering, but we did all get mail-in ballots (or you can register same-day).
There’s a lot of good stuff, a tiny bit of bad stuff, and some whatever stuff. My full analysis is here. If you have questions, disagreements, or discussion items, let’s talk! Wherever you are, please vote in local elections, which is where the real power is. More on that another time, maybe.
Here’s an okapi. May we all have the good fortune to look this fine in striped pants.
