Good morning!
Welcome to Issue 42.4 of Digestable, your daily mouthful of real things happening in the world, minus alarmist pandemic news.
Today’s news, fermented:
Today is one of those days when I just want to link to the homepages of a few news sites and call it good. There is so much commentary on fallout from the Capitol riots, what the next week in the US will look like, rising COVID tolls and hardships that accompany them, violence and complexity around the world.
Here are a few things worth paying attention to amid the noise:
The GOP is losing many sources of income, as New York City severed ties with Tr*mp and many major corporations have withdrawn financial support from the Republican Attorneys General Association.
US police three times as likely to use force against leftwing protesters, data finds.
Google is ‘practicing’ meddling with Australian news as some sort of backlash against a proposed regulation, adding to the list of reasons that Big Tech has too much power.
The US is still executing people, including victims of torture. (CW: this is a pretty grisly story.)
Ugandans head to the polls today to conclude (hopefully) a closely-watched and violent election season, including internet outages across the country.
Give yourself the gift of looking at these drainage channels that resemble trees (two of my favorite things in one place!):

Back tomorrow from the superb Latifah Azlan.
