Good morning!
Welcome to Issue 42.5 of Digestable, your daily mouthful of real things happening in the world, minus alarmist pandemic news.
Today’s news, fermented:
Well, one more week of disasters down, lots to go.
The one thing I’ll pull out of the mess today is that the Supreme Court will be hearing—on inauguration eve (Tuesday)—an important case that is objectively boring and niche, but will have ramifications for US-based legal fights to hold the fossil fuel industry liable for knowingly causing the climate crisis.
You can read more about the case here; here’s an article about how SCOTUS’s only sex cult member must recuse herself; here’s an article about her plans to not do that.
Tweet about how terrible this is—it feels mundane, but public pressure is the only thing that will get Amy Coney Barrett, whose daddy basically is Shell Oil, out of this case.
May we be like the electric eels, who hunt in packs.

When I wrote about Armie Hammer's um, proclivities on Monday, I very flippantly thought nothing more was going to come out of the story. In case you missed it, Armie was trending on Twitter for a few hours this apst weekend because of some leaked direct messages between the actor and two different women where he discussed his sexual fantasies with them in great detail. My coverage of this story at the beginning of this week seems inadequate and incomplete now that more information has come to light -- because Armie could in fact be a serial killer in the making.
First, let's just get a few things out of the way. Consensual BDSM relationships exist. Kinks exist. And we know from Armie's own admission in several interviews and posts from social media that he is a person who has particular kinks and is into such relationships. But since the initial DMs were leaked, more women have come out to say that Armie's relationship with them was actually quite abusive. They allege that Armie repeatedly violated mutually agreed upon boundaries and ignored safe words. Some of these women have gone to Armie's ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers with their story and she reportedly believes them. Most of these relationships also apparently occurred while the two were still married and Elizabeth may not have known about all of them at the time.
A former ex-girlfriend has also gone on the record to confirm Armie's cannibalistic fantasies, claiming that he once told her he wanted to barbecue and eat her ribs. In addition to that, he was extremely emotionally abusive towards her to the point where she started developing panic attacks and had to be hospitalized for trauma and PTSD after they split up.
I'm trying to be very sober when writing about all of this because these are very serious allegations and honestly, I'm a little sick. I've read quite a few of the additional DMs that have been leaked and Armie not only talks about hurting people, but animals as well. There were also reports recently that Armie had pulled out from a movie he was to star in with Jennifer Lopez, citing the need to spend more time with his children EVEN THOUGH he hasn't seen them since his divorce last year. It sounds like someone was given the choice to quietly drop out of his role so he could save face instead of being publicly fired on top of all of these very public exposés.
Anyway, this was not the way I intended to end ~*Hot Goss*~ for the week but it is quite possibly the biggest story that has miraculously remained sort of quiet due to the fact that the world is a literal hellscape and we have violent insurrectionists storming the U.S. Capitol ahead of a long weekend and inauguration week in which even more violence is anticipated not only in Washington D.C. but also around the entire country as well. *deep breaths* So it's like, I kind of had to do an update on it you know?
If you're looking for ways to decompress tonight or tomorrow, might I suggest the latest season of RuPaul's Drag Race UK? Season 2 premiered last night and with such a strong crop of queens, it's already shaping up to be a strong season. I was laughing throughout the entire episode! Or The Bachelor! This latest season is already shaping up to be pretty wild and dramatic so why not? In any case, I hope you all take care of yourselves and have a safely quiet weekend. I'll be back with more goss on Monday!
