Good morning!
This is Issue 67.3 of Digestable, your thrice-weekly mouthful of things happening in the world.
Today’s news, fermented:
After Wednesday’s sad/angry-rant issue, here are some forward-thinking reads for the weekend.
We can’t police and imprison our way to a crime-free society, activists say, from Ash-Lee Woodard Henderson, who’s at the helm of the Highlander Center
I’m Serving Life in Prison. Learning Not to Judge Others Has Set Me Free, an incredible essay about liberation
Can climate liability suits further racial justice efforts? …isn’t that the point?
Also, call your senators and tell them we need action (and investment!) on climate.
I apparently can’t get octopi off my mind, so here’s one you can see through.

~Caro’s Tarot~
Hello Digestable readers,
It’s been a while! Between vacations, packing to move out of my apartment by the end of July, all the summer plans people want to make...I’ve been BUSY. But truly in the best ways possible. I must admit, I am so happy to be coming back to center with y’all. Whenever I feel just a little out of wack, out of alignment, I usually come back to the cards to feel grounded. I especially come back to the cards if I feel like my intuitive skills need fine tuning. See, the Tarot is a tool, it’s a resource, the cards are here to help us sort out what is happening internally, so that we can truly be present externally.
That being said, I want to get right to the reading! I am even whipping out an old Tarot set for this reading, so let’s see what Jerico Mandybur (our divine Tarot deck creator) has to say...but first let’s ground ourselves in a question. I’ve been thinking a lot about the reading I would do coming back to our weekly Tarot, and while typically I like to pull a card to either indicate a lesson from the past week or look ahead into the weekend, I want to go a little bigger. Let’s ask the universe, the divine, whatever you worship, what should we be aware of this month? What should we come back and reflect on as we move through the world in the next couple of weeks?
Alright...drumroll please…..The Chariot!! Ok let’s dive in and see what message this carries:
“When we’re heading in the right direction, which you are, we only want to go faster. Once you’ve picked a path, the outcome will be everything you hope for. So why rush it? Take a pause instead. Think about where you are right now. Will remaining in your chariot be enough to fulfill you? To really expand, you’ll eventually have to get out of your vehicle, drop all your labels, and go deeper. Be willing to go on a journey of self discovery. Find strength in your purpose”
WOW, so much to ponder on here. Y’all know that I don’t like to interpret for you, but I will offer a little insight, or just a small interpretation. I LOVE this card, and this is not the first time we have gotten this card Digestable readers. I take this card as “look at your abundant options, don’t sell yourself short”. Typically when the Chariot comes up, it means we still have to do a little digging about what we feel our purpose is, what direction we feel we are headed towards (or steering, in the case of The Chariot), and if that actually is the path we want to go down. So this month, let’s take some time to pause and really think about purpose. Examine the direction you're headed in, practice some visioning, and ask yourself, is this where I see myself going? And if so, does that bring me joy? Excitement? Or the opposite? ...happy self discovering readers!

Brought to you by the superb Latifah Azlan.
A word of advice on this auspicious Friday morning: if you've somehow managed to win the lottery of life and are vacationing in Italy with your rich, famous husband in the middle of the global pandemic after being exposed multiple times as a sick bully who has, on multiple occasions, encouraged or, at the very least, enthusiastically "joked" about someone to kill themselves on very public platforms, maybe don't whine about cancel culture and being unable to tweet without being piled on by some strangers and largely ignored by most.
If you correctly named the celebrity I'm referring to above, then you're eligible for a ~*Hot Goss*~ veteran's discount! Look, everyone knows I can't stand Chrissy Teigen, but it's because of things like this! I'm tired of hearing her whine and pontificate about her problems that honestly should be processed with a licensed therapist. If you miss tweeting so much, create a burner account like the rest of us! Do I have to do everything around here?!
One (1) Timotheé Chalamet to cleanse the column, please. It's been too long.
