Good morning!
This is Issue 61.2 of Digestable, your thrice-weekly mouthful of things happening in the world.
Today’s news, fermented:
My initial promise for this newsletter was to not include any pandemic panic news. When things shifted, and it became clear that pandemic times were here to stay for awhile, I tried to cover the stuff we needed to know while avoiding the fear-mongering that headlines were designed to do.
Now, it seems that a year and a half in, the powers that be are finally taking a look at root causes of this catastrophe. Thus, today’s story: World leaders ‘ignoring’ role of destruction of nature in causing pandemics. It begins:
“The focus of world leaders on responding to future outbreaks overlooks the far cheaper and more effective strategy of stopping the spillover of disease from animals to humans in the first place, they have said.
The razing of forests and hunting of wildlife is increasingly bringing animals and the microbes they harbour into contact with people and livestock.”
Do with that what you will this weekend.
Here are some, ah, wildlifes.

~Caro’s Tarot~
Good morning and happy Friday!
We are going to try something a little different this morning...the past couple of columns we have been covering some of the basics of Tarot, along with other fun tidbits about the cards. We then usually shift to our weekly reading. Well, today we are going to pick our card heading into the weekend first and then we will dig in a little deeper into the meaning, story and history behind this specific card! Ok let’s try this out…
Once again, Tarot does not tell the future, you cannot ask the cards for the winning lottery numbers (you don’t think I’ve tried? Just kidding). What the cards do tell us is what we already know, either consciously or subconsciously. They are a tool for introspection and self reflection. This weekend we ask the cards, what should we be aware of as we enter the weekend, what should we reflect on as we close out our week?
...The VII of Pentacles...let’s see what interpretation we are offered:
“You’ve worked hard and the fruits of your labour are starting to show. This is the time for careful evaluation of what you’ve accomplished so far. Don’t worry, your dedication will pay off. You’re just beginning to receive the rewards of your efforts -- accept them, enjoy them and know that this is just the beginning. Be patient and try to rein in any workaholic tendencies you may have”
Alright y’all, this is quite an interesting, and seemingly positive card. Remember how a couple of weeks ago I covered the Minor Arcana meaning? Well let’s remind ourselves, the Minor Arcana pertains to everyday life, these are the small actions that add up to the whole picture. So this is the type of card we are dealing with here, a card that reflects the everyday efforts we make. Pictured on our actual tarot card is a person who seems to be taking a break from hard labor to admire the fruits and blossoms in their garden. They are looking beyond their fruits though, but what are they looking at? Notice they are not picking the fruit, or pentacles, in this picture? According to the website Labyrinthos, they are looking beyond the fruits because the person in our card is focused on long term goals, they cannot touch their full harvest right now. In our picture above, they are lightly touching two of the coins on our little tree here, but not picking the fruit off. So we are working hard here y’all, we are deeply investing in different areas in our lives, and we will start to see the rewards to those efforts real soon. Slow and steady investment is the key to sustainably reaching your long term goals.
I will leave you with something fun this Friday morning Digestable readers...a journal prompt for this card (one of my FAVORITE things to do after a Tarot reading is journaling)! Where are you now in your journey, between where you first started and your ideal end goal? What investments are you no longer willing to make? What motivation do you need right now?
Happy Weekend!

Brought to you by the superb Latifah Azlan.
It's Friday, I'm back in Massachusetts after two whole weeks away, and my allergies are back in full force to make my life a living hell -- because Massachusetts. So please enjoy this Buzzfeed listicle on 17 Celebrities who got Dumped in the Worst Ways in lieu of any real commentary on ~*Hot Goss*~ today. I just cannot open my eyes to look at this computer screen long enough to write something of substance. I'm really sorry but also I'm off to lie down with a cold pack on my eyes for the next 15 minutes before I have to actually start the day. Hopefully I'll be back on Monday with better things to say.
