Good morning!
This is Issue 59.1 of Digestable, your thrice-weekly mouthful of things happening in the world.
Today’s news, fermented:
Not a ton from me today, just boosting Caro’s mighty doc full of mutual aid and other support for Colombia, with some ways to support Palestinians in the struggle against the apartheid state, and COVID relief for folks in India.
If you are at odds with my analysis of Israel as a settler colonial apartheid state, you could stop reading these emails, but it’d be better if you get in touch with me (just reply to this) and we can talk about it. I’m proud to be a part of an American Jewish community that is not afraid of nuance, and often has shown up to support other movements. If you’ve supported Black Lives Matter but are not sure where you stand on Palestine, read this, and let’s talk; if you were horrified by the Tr*mp era, but not sure where you stand on Israel, let’s talk.
The world is heavy and complicated, as it often is—remember to read and consider beyond headlines, which often skew towards protecting those in power.
The good news is: Latifah is back with ~*Hot Goss*~ and I am sure I’m not alone in my relief.
Also, we recently found the stars in the ocean.
The Second Look
Half-baked cultural criticism back next week from Gabriel Coleman.

Brought to you by the superb Latifah Azlan.
Eid Mubarak and hello friends!
I'm feeling a little out of practice when it comes to writing this column but also holy moly has SO much ~*Hot Goss*~ happened since my self-imposed hiatus. And none more exciting than the reunion of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez -- because time really is a flat circle, folks!
The Bennifer revival has been the most exciting thing to happen for celebrity gossip this entire year. I think I'm still undecided on whether or not this is a PR stunt or it's FOR REAL for real but Ben and J.Lo started seeing each other again kind of, sort of almost immediately after she ended her engagement with Alex Rodriguez. And so the pair have been "hanging out" and vacationing in Montana -- and they're planning to keep this thing going so that the gossip blogs can have something to write about other than royal family drama, which honestly I can't be too mad at.
So now it's a "will they/won't they" situation that I am certain Ben and J.Lo will continue to milk throughout the summer for our edification. I'll keep us posted of course but for now, it's so good to be back!
