Welcome to Digestable, your thrice-weekly mouthful of real things happening in the world, minus alarmist pandemic news.
Today’s news, fermented:
I’ve been deep in COP26land, so not much beyond that from me this morning. Today’s supposed to be the last day of the negotiations, but anything can happen.
Brought to you by the superb Latifah Azlan.
I'm really tired of this pandemic.
Aside from all the anxiety that it constantly brings up, the worst thing about this pandemic is having to see the anti-vaxxer crowd get the platform they've had -- and it's even worse now when it's celebrities being given as much attention for their "beliefs" because it's just absolutely everywhere.
So I'm sure you've heard about Emilio Estevez being fired from the tv reboot of The Mighty Ducks for not complying with Disney's mandatory vaccination requirements. To be fair to Emilio, he emphatically denied that he was anti-vaxx but at the same time, he also refused to show proof that he had been jabbed. But okay whatever, at least we don't have to suffer through weeks of Emilio Estevez pontificating about vaccines on all sorts of media platforms.
The same cannot be said about NFL superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has been in the news a lot lately for being revealed to be a liar and an anti-vaccine conspiracy nut! The only reason we know about this now is because he tested positive for Covid a few weeks ago and would miss a couple of games because of it. And although he claimed to be immunized from Covid in August, the truth eventually came out and since then Aaron has been all over the news talking about his 'research' into the vaccines and, well, you know the drill! Bring out that Anti-Vaccine Bingo Card and i can guarantee you that Aaron has brought up every single talking point, word-for-word, in his recent interviews. Oh and of course, he is the victim in all of this even though he'll probably keep his job and endorsements. There's that pesky Cancel Culture again folks!
And now, reports are leaking that Letitia Wright is holding up production of Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever because of her immunization status. Letitia is British and currently recuperating from an injury in the UK. While the US recently opened up its borders again, this comes with the caveat that everyone flying into America needs to show proof of being vaccinated. And given Letitia's allegedly very public views about vaccines, it's safe to say that she probably cannot prove that at all. Disney has declined to comment on these reports and fans are already demanding that she be replaced with another actor. The irony here, of course, is the fact that Letitia plays Shuri in the Black Panther series, T'Challa's highly intelligent scientist sister. Though it's a brainless move, it does take a lot of guts to screw over your Marvel-supplied bag of cash in the name of vaccine conspiracy theories though, I'll give her that.
